Is the sauna healthy?

Since the dawn of time, people have used the sauna. The history of the sauna and its origin dates back to ancient times, it is assumed that the first Romans used the sauna, taking care of their hygiene, cleansing the body and spirit. The Finns used saunas as places where I can warm up. Regardless of the culture, every nation was well aware that using the sauna brings measurable results. Indulging in sauna rituals, they increased their fitness and immunity.
Currently, saunas are used as meeting places for whole families, groups of friends, or places where business is discussed. We use saunas as places where we can rest, calm down or relax.

Today, they are widely available, some of us have them in our homes, gardens. We can meet them built-in or free-standing so-called. garden saunas in the form of a barrel or modern.

Many of us wonder if using a sauna is healthy?

Using the sauna is generally safe for health. People with circulatory system diseases should also not be afraid of taking a bath in the sauna, and it must not be accompanied by alcohol consumption.
It should also be remembered that in the sauna there are generally high temperatures and some elements of the sauna, such as the stove, can cause burns.

Gentlemen, you must be careful :D

It has been proven that frequent use of the sauna significantly affects the quality of our semen. Men aged 22 - 45 who are planning their offspring are particularly vulnerable. Staying in the sauna may also cause a decrease in blood pressure in people with orthostatic hypertension. Often the symptoms appear when changing the position from sitting to standing when the person staying in the sauna wants to leave it. Fainting and falling may be the consequence of this condition.
When writing this article, I would like to point out that I am not a specialist or a doctor who certainly knows all the adversities and diseases that preclude the use of the sauna. Here are just a few factors worth paying attention to. I emphasize the very fact that a person interested in using the sauna should ask his family doctor for a medical opinion on himself.

Therefore, I present several health conditions that should certainly exclude a person from using the sauna:

  • people with high fever
  • people who have recently undergone surgical procedures,
  • people diagnosed with epilepsy,
  • people with skin diseases or infectious diseases,
We don't have to be afraid of saunas!
We have already briefly discussed what you should pay attention to when planning a sauna bath. Sauna also has many potential benefits. Regular use of the sauna:
  • improves immunity,
  • dilates blood vessels,
  • improves cardio-respiratory function,
  • lowers blood pressure,
  • increases the frequency of heart contractions,
  • improves blood supply to the skin and mucous membrane of the respiratory tract,
  • reduces stress and emotional tension,
  • causes loss of sodium from the body as a result of sweating,
  • causes an increase in the production of nitric oxide,
  • relieves symptoms of depression.

Of course, there are many more positive benefits of using the sauna. I only focused on a few. It should be remembered that at the very beginning of our adventure with the sauna, we should start with lower temperatures and shorter duration of the session. Personally, I prefer the temperature around 70-75 degrees and the duration of one session of 12 - 15 minutes. Between sessions, it is necessary to replenish water losses caused by sweating our body. Water-rich fruits such as watermelon and grapes may also help. It is also good to remember that the first sauna session should be started no sooner than about 2 hours after eating a hearty meal. After each session, it is recommended to cool down the heated body, thanks to which our immunity will increase significantly. In spring and autumn, we can use cold water for this purpose, and in winter, we can use snow for this purpose ;D
